Goldstone PE Buddy Project - Final Reflection

Goldstone PE Buddy Project - Final Reflection

In our last week of our Goldstone PE buddy project, we need to reflect of our experience both as PE leaders and PE buddies.  Your buddies will miss you - Ms. Sader says that her class talks about their big buddies all the time & that her students bring things from home that they want to show you.  How great is that!  You all really have an impact on these kids!

Complete this as a blog post or on paper - either format is due today.

PE leaders -
1.  What adjustments and improvements did you make in your lessons (structure, activities, organization, instructions) from the first lesson to the last one?
At the start we made the grade ones to line up on the side line to do countless activities such as jogging, high knees and more however, the kids in my class were not participating that much which is the reason for our last class we decided to play freeze tag with the grade ones therefore, everyone had to participate including my age.  Everyone loved playing freeze kids because the little kids were trying so hard to catch us and we were trying to run away from them.

2.  What was the biggest challenge for your group?  For you?
The biggest challenge for my group was interacting with the grade ones at the start of the class however, it got a lot easier at the last week because I got experience from leading the class and for my workplace I had to work with little kids.

3.  Describe your favourite moment as a leader and explain why.
My favorite moment as a leader was playing capture the flag with the grade ones because I loved the energy they had and how they never gave up even when I was faster than them.

4. What do you still need to work on?  What improvements would you make if you were continuing teaching for another month?
I had to continue teaching for another month then I would have to improve on being more loud so they can understand the directions better.

PE Buddies -
1.  What are some of the things that you learned being a PE buddy?
I learnt that it does not matter what the kids play, they will have have fun with anything for example we played a game where all they had to do was throw a beanbag which seemed really boring to me however, they had a blast.  They were running and trying so hard to throw the beanbag to the other side.

2.  Did your comfort level change over the course of the month?  Why or why not?
My comfort level did not change throughout the month because I was already comfortable taking in front of the little kids because of working with Drive Basketball for work experience.

3.  What was your favourite part of being a buddy?  Be specific.
My favorite part of being a buddy was participating with little kids during the games not the warm-ups even though they were having fun during the warm-ups I was not although, I loved to participate in the games we played every class.

Interesting Fact: Kidney Failure

In my opinion, kidneys are one of the morst important organs in our bodies for countless reasons such as they aid in filtering out waste products from our blood, they create a hormone to help stimulate red blood cell production also, they make other hormones to aid in regulate blood pressure and more.  Therefore, it is not a good thing if kidney failure occurs in the body because there are only cons and zero pros that come along with kidney failure. Kidney failure will  occur if there is a build up of waste products in the body which does not seem horrible however, if potassium builds up in the bloodstream and without the aid of the kidneys to remove it then the result is abnormal heart rthyms as well as instant death.  There are many causes of kidney failure however, not all of them are treatable as a result the kidney will never return to normal although, some times kidney faillure is treatable.  Once Kidney failure reaches the point where it becomes mandatory for the person to get a trasnplant or dialysis and they refuse then they will die which could happen in days or weeks. It is good to get blood tests because they help measure creatine, BUN, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) which help discover kidney failure in the body.  If the kidney completely fails then the only possible treatment is dialysis or transplant.  Dialysis is a procdeure that helps take the normal duties of the kidney for those people whose kidneys are not working properly as a result these people can live a normal life and do every single task even if there kidneys are not working.

5 Week Fitness : Exercise Science

I started this program in the beginning of December and not in the middle of November which is  two weeks later than it was assigned because I could only go to the gym in the morning and not in the afternoon due to my basketball practices as well as homework.  However, I could not go in the morning during November because the first week I was sick therefore, I did not think  it was safe to workout and the second week I had no ride to the gym.  Nevertheless, I am still doing this program because after one month I saw tremendous results.  The program is called 5x5 Stronglifts and I choose this program because the workouts are quick, effective and improve my strength.  There are two workouts, the first one is workout A while, the second one is workout B.  The first workout  involves doing squats, bench press, along with barbell rows and workout B involves squat, overhead press, as well as deadlifts.  You must keep switching between workouts every time you go to the gym which is the reason, the first week I did  workout A,B,A then, the second week I did workout, B,A,B.  The third week is similar to the first while the fourth week is similar to the second week however, you need one day in between every workout for rest and I never worked out on the weekends.  For every workout I did 5 sets of 5 reps which is the reason the program is called 5x5.  Also, I started off with weights that were comfortable however, at the end of December the weights increased tremendously because every workout I had to add 2.5 pounds which eventually added up.  For example, if in workout A I squatted 95 pounds then in workout B I would squat 100 pounds and I did this for all the exercises as a result I can bench press 115 pounds however, when I started I could only bench press 70 pounds.  My initial testing was doing as many push ups I could until fatigue and I could only do 20 however, at the end of December I could do 50 in a row.

Muscle Cramps

Everybody has had a muscle cramp in their thigh, calf, arm and more during their life at different situations such as from running or even lying down on the couch.  When a muscle contracts and it is not able to relax then a cramp will occur.  If you have a cramp in your calf then it will become hard as well as stiff and it will be extremely painful to deal with.  The causes of a muscle cramp are endless because there is more than one way to get them however, the main ways to get a muscle cramp is: lack of stretching before the exercise, working out in the heat, poor blood circulation, muscle fatigue and dehydration which is the reason coaches tell their players to drink a lot of water.  Also, when people workout they sweat out water as well as electrolytes which help conduct nerve impulses throughout the entire body, which allow your muscles to contract.  When a person has lost enough water as well as electrolytes then their nerve impulses from their brain to their muscles become deranged  as a result muscle cramps will occur. Countless people already know that muscle cramps will occur due to those causes such as dehydration however, many people do not know that muscle cramps are a side effect from certain drugs such as Lasix, Aricept, Evista and more.  I found my information from this website: http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/muscle-spasms-cramps-charley-horse as well as http://www.bengreenfieldfitness.com/2013/09/ways-to-stop-muscle-cramps/.
